The Modesto Bee and the Stanislaus County Fair are looking for a local band, duo or solo singer or musician to perform at the fair. It's a chance for local entertainers to show their stuff and get a break to perform before a big crowd at the fair.
The winning act will perform on Thursday evening, July 22, on the Cencal Beverage Co. Center Stage.
It'll be Kids Free Night at the fair -- children 12 and under will be given free admission. It's also the night when the popular group Boys Like Girls will perform on the Budweiser Variety Free Stage.
So with lots of kids and families in attendance, The Bee and the fair are looking for a family-friendly act. Individuals entering the contest must live in or bands must be based in one of five California counties: Mariposa, Merced, San Joaquin, Stanislaus or Tuolumne.
Not quite everyone. Employees of The Modesto Bee are ineligible, for example. Also, if you or your band are already scheduled to perform at the fair this year, you are ineligible.
Performers of all ages may take part in the contest, but the entry for anyone under age 13 must be made by an adult.
Submit a video clip of you or your band performing. Limit the video to 30 seconds -- anything longer will be rejected. Original material is strongly encouraged. You can make the video as fancy or as simple as you like. The important thing is that the clip gives people an idea of how well you can sing or play your instrument.
Readers of The Modesto Bee and modbee.com will vote for their favorite acts on modbee.com. The highest-rated act will win, subject to review and approval by officials of the Stanislaus County Fair.
There's just one: The winning act will perform from 6 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 22. Sorry, there are no runners-up.
The winning performer or group must have transportation to the fair and must supply any instruments, amplifiers, microphones, speakers or any other audio/video equipment. If you are not available to perform on July 22, do not enter.
